Trimline work on The Londoner Hotel

The Londoner Hotel is an ode to the city and its nuances, where every feeling and flavour has been designed to be repeated, again and again. Addictive in nature and memorable by design, these reflections of the city are presented in the shape of a luxury design hotel in London, situated on one of the world’s most iconic squares.

A staggering edifice on the south west corner of Leicester Square, it is a stage for drama and theatrics. A tribute to the artists, visionaries and eccentrics of the city. Teeming with experiences, its striking spaces and intimate nooks play host to inimitable dining, performances and exhibitions.

The unique 16-storey building, dubbed the ‘Iceberg Hotel’, spans six levels below ground, making it the deepest habitable basement in London and one of the deepest in the world.

Working closely with the architects, Woods Bagot, Trimline Group were commissioned to prepare a complete tile backing and waterproofing system for all 350 rooms.

The Dukkaboard system was the client’s favourite choice, thanks to its 25-year warranty and its unique bespoke offering that helped both the Architect, by meeting the scheme design requirements and the contractors, by remaining cost efficient and time effective to install.

The expert team at Dukkaboard provided drawings and in-depth specifications of all the waterproofing junctions, including delivering detailed mock-ups to the architects, demonstrating what part each component played and worked in the overall build up .This enabled the architects to specify with confidence.

Interior specialists, EE Smith based in Leicester, were awarded the multi-million-pound contract to provide the full hotel fitout, including bespoke joinery, metalwork panelling and bathrooms.

A milestone project for the company managing director Neil Bottrill said “With cutting edge design by Yabu Pushelberg combined with Woods Bagot quality architecture, the interiors are beautifully unique, making us even more thrilled to be part of this iconic project. We are now working around the clock to bring this innovative and diverse space to life.”

Working alongside the Tiling Contractor, EE Smith, Trimline Group conducted regular training sessions to ensure their operatives knew how to install the products and carried out regular site visits to monitor all aspects of the installation.

Tom Devine notes that “We had to overcome a number of challenges on the drainage which lead us to produce a bespoke linear drain for this project.

Working closely with the designers at every stage, we ensured that the height build-ups all met site conditions which changed from floor to floor on site. Even once the contractor was on site we had to adapt to changing site conditions and subsequently the change of products required at short notice.

This project demonstrates how we can quickly adapt to site conditions. Our scale of ability allowed us to produce bespoke Dukkaboard trays, within just 5 days. Dukkaboard’s bespoke offering is truly unique and sector leading. This greatly helped the installers to stay on top of their game and deliver on client expectations”.

Environmental sustainability is in The Londoner’s DNA. With an ‘Excellent’ rating from BREEAM. All Dukkaboard products supplied where in keeping with this important environmental requirement.

Staggering in scale yet boutique in feel, The Londoner is the advocate of the individual, intimate, eclectic and curated, brought to life across 16 storeys.

Premiering in late 2020, The Londoner will be part of a new hotel category of one: a super boutique hotel.
